AI Lawyer

Legal information, not legal advice

What AI Lawyer is planned to be, what it will never be, and when you should speak to a qualified advocate instead.

The disclaimer, in full

AI Lawyer will provide legal information and document help only. It is not a law firm, does not give legal advice and does not replace an advocate. Consult a qualified advocate for advice on your matter.

This sentence appears at the foot of every page of this website and near the top of the pages where it matters most. It applies to the product as it is planned, and to everything on this website, including the articles on the blog.

Where the product stands

AI Lawyer does not exist yet. There is no code and no app. Legal services to the public are regulated, so the product will be designed only after legal review. Nothing on this website is a legal service, and nothing here should be read as one.

Legal information is general: what a rule usually says, what a common document is for, what the usual steps of a process are, and where those rules and documents can be read. It is the same for everyone who asks the same general question.

AI Lawyer is planned to give this kind of information in plain language, with the sources shown next to each answer, so that you, or an advocate, can check where it came from. It is also planned to help with routine documents and to keep the documents and notes for a matter in one place.

Legal advice applies the law to your own facts: whether you should sign, send, reply, file, settle or go to court, what your chances are, and what exactly you should say. It depends on details that a general tool cannot judge, and it carries responsibility that a tool cannot carry.

AI Lawyer will not give advice on your matter. When a question needs advice, the plan is to direct you to a qualified advocate. How that path will work, and how it may be shown, is still an open question for legal review.

When to speak to an advocate

Speak to a qualified advocate, not to a tool, when:

  • you have received a notice, a summons or any paper from a court or an authority;
  • there is a deadline, a hearing date or a limitation period that might be close;
  • you are deciding whether to sign, send or reply to something that binds you;
  • money, property, employment, family or liberty is at stake;
  • you are unsure whether your situation is routine.

If you cannot afford an advocate, legal services authorities in India provide free legal services to eligible people. The blog article on finding a qualified advocate explains where to start.

About confidentiality

Confidentiality is a core design requirement. How and where documents will be stored is not decided yet, so please do not rely on AI Lawyer, or on this website, for anything confidential. This website does not collect what you type: online forms are not open, and the contact page lists phone numbers only. Please do not send details of a legal matter, names of parties or documents.

Questions about this page

If anything here is unclear, the questions page answers the common ones, and the contact page lists the phone numbers of a person who can explain the product. That person cannot give legal advice either.
